Technology and Communications
The Technology & Communications Committee has been extremely active in recent years as technology and communications have become increasingly intertwined. The Committee is seeking active members as well as individuals who would be interested in becoming Vice Chairs at some point in the future. At the 2006 IPBA Annual Conference in Sydney, the major focus of the program presented by the Committee was "The Ugly Side Of The Internet". The two half-day sessions, "The Pirates are Coming: The Internet and Entertainment Law", and "Crime on the Internet", were well attended. The 2007 Beijing Conference focused on worldwide technology transfer and its effect on international trade. The sessions were tailored to the Chinese experience; two sessions were held; one on the barriers encountered by foreign investors in China in the transfer of technology and, the other, on how Chinese companies and the Chinese government deal with foreign direct investment. Hollywood, entertainment, and the convergence of technology, communications and entertainment delivery is central theme of the program for the 2008 IPBA Annual Conference in Los Angeles. Renowned persons in the industry will speak on the collapsing boundaries between technology, communications and entertainment; its effect on content and methods of audio, video and internet distribution, and how the interests of each player in the entertainment chain, the consumer, content creators, distributors, are addressed. The Committee encourages all those interested to become more involved with the Committee to attend the Annual Conference in Los Angeles.
