Aerospace Law The Aerospace Committee is a small but enthusiastic section of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association. Our committee membership is drawn broadly from members all round the globe with either an interest in the aviation industry or associated aerospace sectors including service providers to airlines, product manufacturers, maintenance organisations and both aviation and space risks insurers. Our annual committee programme strives to encompass the interests of all of our members and we seek to secure a balance between current and legal topics of interest as well as having something to offer our industry based members. It is therefore pleasing to see that our forthcoming programme for the Tokyo conference has attracted a high level of interest from delegates already registered. We will be holding two sessions in Tokyo over the morning and afternoon of Tuesday 24 April 2001. Following the conference theme of the challenges faced by Asia Pacific lawyers at the outset of the 21st century, we have a session in the morning covering "Pioneering Legal Developments". In this session we have three speakers covering topics on Chinese air carriers' liability law, aviation developments in Australia and proposals under review jointly by Unidroit a nd the International Civil Aviation Organisation to draft a convention on international interests in mobile equipment. The afternoon is an industry based session. We are privileged to have a team from Airbus, Toulouse illustrating the example of the Airbus A380 project as a means by which the aerospace industry is tackling the need to cater for significantly increased passenger traffic. Finally, Mr Gottlieb from Cargolifter in Germany will demonstrate to us how his company is providing support for such projects and the work that they have done in developing a super size lighter than aircraft specifically designed for the transport of very large objects. We have an exciting range of topics that I am sure will generate significant discussion and I look forward to welcoming delegates to the Aerospace session in Tokyo.
