The Inter-Pacific Bar Association ("IPBA") is an international association of business and commercial lawyers with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region. Members are either Asia-Pacific residents or have a strong interest in this part of the world. The IPBA was founded in April 1991 at an organising conference held in Tokyo attended by more than 500 lawyers from throughout Asia and the Pacific. Since this time, it has grown to become a pre-eminent organisation in the area of Asia law and business with a membership of approximately 2,000 lawyers from 67 jurisdictions around the world.

The growth of the IPBA has been spurred by the tremendous growth of the Asian economies. As companies throughout the region become part of the global economy they require additional assistance from lawyers in their home country and from lawyers throughout the region. One goal of the IPBA is to help lawyers stay abreast of developments that affect their clients. Another is to provide an opportunity for business and commercial lawyers throughout the region to network with lawyers of similar interests and fields of practice. Supported by major bar associations, law societies and other organisations throughout Asia and the Pacific, the IPBA is playing a significant role in fostering ties among members of the legal profession with an interest in the region.
